Does the CR have a 6 speed tranny? Or just the 5 like the zilla?
It is a 6 speed. From what the boys tell me, they stopped making the CR500R in 2001?Stock 500's had 5 speed.
But some dealers made CR500RAF's I think they called it...6 speed, more displacement, tuned exhaust, etc. They sold them as factory race bikes for several years, from what they told me. I think they kinda did like toyota did with TRD.

All I know is I made the hill climb on that bike that they all tried and failed on their hopped up LTR450's, BARELY! I sat up on the top shaking for an hour and a half! scarey ****!

2 strokes are much lighter (no valves, cam, etc), but add the water cooling and it more than evens it out. The CR is water cooled, right?

Yep, water cooled!
The gas tank is only gonna be 1 gallon though. 8.5 pounds roughly?

I think so. The 2 stroke should have less oil in it too. Just the gear oil for the tranny.

The zilla book says the cooling system takes 2 qts water. Seems kinda light to me, but I don't know. 1 qt of gear oil. So that's 1 gal of gas + 1 qt oil + 2 qts water compared to all the 4 stroke metal + 2 qts oil + whatever amount of gas you want in the tank.

I think the biotch will scream!
It only needs enough fuel for 150-275 yards at the most! To go up the hill!
Who cares on the way down.....

Me too... Streetbikes are my vice. Get me on one of those and suddenly I'm a legend in my own mind. Back in 1994 I almost rode straight off the mountain and haven't touched one since. And I won't either unless its a Rebel or Virago or something small.

I do ok on dirt bikes. I guess I'm more scared of them. Makes sense since I wreck all the time.

30% of the weight is in tires. The engine is about 15%. The frame is close to 5%. Hard to believe 50% of the weight is the rest of the crap... shocks, a-arm, s-arm, chain, tank, seat, etc.

I'm at a loss of how to save more weight. Even an aluminum frame would only save 5-10lbs. Tires is all I can think. Shave em down. 2 ply instead of 6. Stuff like that.

When they will never see anything but sand, we a are looking for zero ply right?
Fronts will be completely smooth, and the backs will only have the proper amount of paddles to put the rpm's to the sand!

Hell, I don't know, I am leaving it up to the kids! I think the first approach is get the engine in, THEN mess with the details!
