Hey Guys,
Just picked up another '87 LT230s for next to nothing. But this one needs a bunch of parts before its in running condition.
First things I'd like to find is a rear brake caliper (completely missing) and possibly the rotor, the one thats there looks like it could be bent.
Also need a muffler, a stock one is fine, doesn't have to be pretty just usable.
I also need a bunch of other stuff so if you have parts lying around let me know and we'll make a deal. I want to get this one running for my son.
You can pm me here or my email is "cdsgraphic at comcast dot net"
Thanks,

Well, it was bound to happen. And it did. A normal rider would of been proud. But this just amplified the feelings I already have.
I was out ridden the 230 today, ya know, just around the neighborhood. When this kid flagged me down. I stopped. And noticed he must be about 15 years old. He asked me what I was rideing. He did not recognize the machine.
I told him it was a LT230S Quadsport. He then asked "who makes it"? I stated PROUDLY, no one, it has not been built for 20 years ( being an 87, I wasnt lieing).
At which point I fired it up (one kick P.G.) and took off in 3rd gear in a wheelie back in the direction of my place.
If ever there is a point in a persons life that they are more proud of their accomplishments, that was one of mine.
You guys are part of my story. You understand what it means to be aboard the 230. The fact that it still exist is a testament to the pride you take in your machine.

Ah yes......... 1 kick, I remember it well!!!!! As a matter of fact, just to ease my frustration, I put my "old" albeit, pumped up, engine yesterday in the girl!!! Same thing, ran around the block! Yes, 1 kick!
I can't lie, got bugs in my teeth from the grin on my face from my lil ride!!!
Soon, I hope to give a ride report on tha big bore. Getting closer (slowly) every day! The only thing that is slowing me up, is my job (POOL BIZ THIS TIME OF YEAR=9-13 HOUR DAYZ) But more importantly, when I am not working, I am trying to B a Father and husband, the most important jobs in the world!!!
This is how I know I am blessed, my beautiful 8 year old daughter, and my georgous wife, always want to find, and to give me time to work on the "turd". They know that working on this thing gives me a huge amount of pride (never done this type of thing alone, without knowledgeble help, not counting you all) Strange, the more time they give me, the more I want to spend that time with them!!
Whipped, yes that is me!!! 230 quadsports, and my family, Ya know what? IT DOES NOT GET BETTER THAN THIS!!! Every day above dirt is a good day!
I am not a religous man, but I recognize am blessed in life, and I thank you all for keeping something that most would trivalize, but some of ya all understand.
Alright, done being sappy, for now, thank you for your time!

Hello
I'm 15 years old and I plan on buying a 1986 Suzuki quadsport 230 tomorrow. The bike has not been ridden very much (It still has the stock tires and they are in good condition.) The bike runs and has somewhere around 50 hours on it. I grew up on a Yamaha Raptor 80 and I have been riding my fathers suzuki quadsport 400.
I need some help. I want to get this bike into the best running condition that I can. Can anyone suggest necessary pieces to look at/replace? Maybe ones that could be damamged from sitting in a garage for 20 years? I was told to take a look at the swingarm bearings and I will do that and if needed I will replace those. I get all the help I need from my father who has grown up on four wheelers.
Thank you

Hey mike.
Its good to see a new, face, I guess is a good word to use.
Your on the right track with checking the pivot bearings. These can really cause trouble. The carrier bearings and front wheel bearings may be dry after sitting that long. But thats not machine specific and is a symptom of any long term storage.
Which makes me wonder if you will have problems with the carb after sitting that long. You can buy a rebuild kit that has all the stock jets, springs and gaskets fairly cheap. Good insurance if you ask me.
Of course youll want a fresh oil change and flushing the hydraulics is not a bad idea either.
Check the condition of the rear pads while your there. The Sport will eat rear brake pads depending on the conditions it was run in.
Glad to see a new QS owner. There is a ton of info on here ( it offsets the bull ) that you can use. If you have a question, and cant find it, just let us know.
Good luck with the 230 mikem92.

This is a good point... the qs I just picked up has been sitting for a long time. I ordered a carb rebuild kit, but the carb has the nastiest green varnish build-up i've ever seen. After talking with vince (vince's cycle) about some other parts, he also mentioned that if your very careful to use paint stripper if the varnish is that bad, but keep it away from the floats. I enjoyed talking to him, very freindly and he really knows about the old quadsports, too bad he's getting out of the parts business.

Thanks a lot.
I'll probably replace most of the bearings. I was planning on taking the carb apart and cleaning it. I probably will get a rebuild kit to make sure it's all working good.
I'll take a look at the pads too.
Thanks a bunch. This thread is very useful.

well, The crank will cost me 75.00 to rebuild. The rod kit cost 50.00. Thats less than half what a new one would cost. Keeping the 230 alive is not as costly as one might think.
I was thinking about creating a photo log of this build. If there is a intrest, I can forward the file to anyone that wants them.
