To bashr52, thanks for responding, The plug looks a little black and sooty when I pull it out but not to bad, the engine doesn't overheat. I found a coil on ebay, think I ought to experiment with buying it and sticking it on? I know that most electronic things either work or they don't with not a lot of gray area in between but it is just strange that sometimes it seems to run pretty good for a little while and then last night I started it and it quit running decent within a few minutes. It sat for a while, think I should pull the plate and check the mag for rust, dirt, broken parts etc? Any ideas greatly appreciated. Didn't get to look at it tonight, had to work OT. thanks again
This is a simple combustion engine, much like a lawn mower! We all tend to over think the "problems", trust me, myself included! Cover the basics, fuel, spark, then air/ fuel mix, rarely will you have to crack the motor apart!
I learned that these quads run incredible, until you start screwing with them!

Its been awfully quiet around here lately!
I've been crazy busy with school now. I have to drive 75 miles to school, then rush back and work for a few hours, then go home and do homework.....everyday.

Whats up, I bought an 87 230e back in january that needed "minor" work. Since then I've replaced the rear swingarm bearings, put on new tires and rims, new sprocket, sprocket retainer, numerous o-rings,and just got done putting new clutch discs,a new one way clutch, clutch springs, and had to rethread the shaft that holds the oneway clutch cuz the old owner didnt realize it was a left hand thread...ive poured alot of money in this thing and it still needs rings. Anyway I finally put the clutch cover on,filled it with oil, fired it up and it won't shift out of first gear. Ive racked my brain over this bike all summer and now im burnt out...why won't it shift out of first gear? I could take it to the local suzuki shop but there known for overcharging and i dont have the money. please help...

yes still the stock linkage, its got alot of slop in it also...I'll try and tighten it up. I couldn't even shift by hand out of first gear either. Could it be something else or should I focus on the shift linkage? thanx
