well there is wattage needed for the tail light and CDI. so using 40 watts just for the headlights is pushing the safe useage of the stator. a 55 watt max of your stator is if its still like new. a 20 + year old stator may not take the abuse. if it was new 55 watts would be maybe the max. it all goes down to how clean the connections are and the condition of the wires themselves. its not hard to rewire a 230. mine has 24 kt gold connectors with anti-corrosive chemical treatment on it. its expensive but my connections are working better than new.

but be on the safe side stick with a 35 watt HID or LED headlight and switch your tail light to an LED light. the less draw you put on the electrical system the better it will work and longer it will last.

stick with a UNI 2 stage foam airfilter also. K&N is a good filter too but UNI has always been the one i choose. i wont tell everyone all my secrets, i guess you could say, but i destroy 240cc 2 stroke yamaha blasters every time i ride. i have even taken down 2 350 warriors on dirt and trails.

the led tail light you can get at Wal-Mart and adapt it for the 230. there might be a couple websites for the headlight. i'll have to track them down and post them.

Thanks trailrider for the shock info I've got my eye on a warrior rear shock (with resevoir) and a pair of lt250r front shocks (also with resevoirs!) I'm don't jump my 230 (only minor ones on the trails) because that's just not my thing lol. Not only am I trying to extend the life of the swingarm but also have just been strictly a trail rider. So my question is will the new shock setup benefit my riding trails only since I don't prefer to race or jump? I'm hoping for a smoother ride and better handling and I'm thinking this may get the quad where I want it to be.

Thanks again!

Will the 250r shocks bolt on directly or will there be some modifications required to install them? Did the stock 250r shocks have rezzies or am I looking at an aftermarket set? I read a long ways back in the forum that atvman had some camber issues and also wonder if that's gonna affect my 230 and how the tires will wear...

yes the 250r shocks will bolt straight on if they are set on the lowest preload setting. as for riding trails they are the best handling and cornering are improved. bumps seem less abusive on the body. they just do so much better than the stock 230 suspension. if you do get the 250r fronts and the 350 warrior rear it'll make you hate the 230 shocks.

Atvman29 only had the camber issue because he used 250s a arms and shocks. the 250 fronts will not affect your tire wear much that you will notice.
