Eiger shifting issues, Auto
#1
Looking for suggestions on hard(very) shifting between reverse and forward on auto 06 Eiger. Seems to get like locked in place. Really noticed it plowing this past weekend. Thanks

I just bought the 06 in Dec...Christmas gift to myself! Love the machine, rides nice and handles excellent. Did a lot of research before buying an ATV and found that the Eiger offered the best bang for the buck...I wasn't interested in all the bells and whistles, just wanted a reliable quad that had high scores. I just passed the break-in period...I have about 114miles on it now. Have done the 100mile oil change and replaced with Suzuki recommeded oil. I have already had it back to the dealer once for and air'fuel mixture and an idle speed adjustment. It wouldn't run without the choke on full for at least 5mins and then you needed the choke at 1/2 for another 10mins (dealer said they come in pretty lean from the manufacturer). So they adjusted those things and it runs great now...the dealer seems like they are willing to do whatever they need to make me happy, so I have no problem with them. Ever since I have owned it, it has 1) had a small backfire on shutdown...nothing loud, just a "poof" sound, I've heard that I shouldn't worry about it and it will get better after it is broken in a little more (what do you think? is this normal?) and 2) it has always been difficult to get into Reverse from High (and before you ask, I do have it in neutral) and this weekend we got some snow, so plowing was starting to annoy me since I had to get in and out of reverse a lot. I did notice that when it did this while plowing and I was pushed up against a snow bank, if I held the shifter back against Reverse and just tapped the throttle, it would fall back into gear. I did some more investigating last night and noticed that if I hold back the shifter to Reverse, and I reach the point to where it won't go in gear, and keep a little pressure on it, I can roll the quad about 2inches (about 1/4 turn of the rear axle) and it will fall back into Reverse. It happens at distinct locations of the rear axle rotation position. Seeing that, I'm thinking that the internal gears are just not aligned very well, but not sure how this ties into the "throttle-tapping" method I used while plowing. Don't know if this is typical to the types of cut Suzuki uses on their gears. I called the dealer and they said to bring it in and they can look and see if it is a cable adjustment or something else. I was thinking I should probably go ahead and take it to get my name in there service books, just in case if something happens after the warranty is up (then I can argue with Suzuki that I had it in to be fixed before the warranty was out.) Pretty long winded, but I figured I would give you all the info now instead of post by post. Any help would be appreciated.
