Default Starter prob on quadmaster

First post so bear with me.My 2001 suzuki quadmaster 500 will only start if I hold my finger on electric start button and pull string at same time, then starter will start turning, but it seems like starter does not have enough power to start bike by itself, therefore I give string a good pull so engine will start without having to listen to starter turn and engine not start....I have pulled starter and it looks good inside as far as brushes and lube.also when in neutral and ignition on the indicator light for neutral does not glow until after string is pulled and engine is running.Battery is brand new, please help if you know anything... P.s.ENGINE RUNS FINE ONCE STARTED.
