Welcome, I dont recall for sure because I dont own a King but I believe the factory filters are paper like a cars would be. All that you need to do is go out and get a K&N, or UNI to fix the problem. Some one that owns one will chim in to help I am sure, sorry that I cant help any more than that.

I don't own one but the problem with the King Quad airfilters are that the stock paper ones don't seal very well and allow dirt and other particles to get inside the engine and will cause the KQ to shoot out smoke so like dddonkey said just replace it with an aftermarket and you should be fine.

I have a red 06 KQ and replaced the stock filter after 15 miles due to concerns voiced on this site. I noted that the stock filter was not sealed to the intake tube when I removed it. It appears to be of reasonable quality but did not want to take the chance. BTW, I purchased a UNI from Dennis Kirk. Fair price, quick shipping. When I mentioned replacing the filter to my dealer he voiced his approval. He did not run down the Suzuki filter but indirectly commented that there are better filters out there.

Yeah the King Quad's stock air filter is JUNK, replace it with a oiled foam filter like the Uni...I have the Uni and it's WAAAAAAY better than that stock junk. If you get the Uni be sure and oil it b/c it doesn't come preoiled.
