Default 1997 Suzuki LT 250 Carburetor Problems

I recently got a good deal on the above ATV. The only problem is that the engine seems to run really rich and I have to have the choke open to keep it running well, which does not work at higher elevations.

Is there an air/fuel adjustment screw on these Mikuni carburetors? I have thought about rebuilding the carburetor and maybe rejetting it for higher elevations. Is there a diagram of the carburetor somewhere that I could access to help me with this?

Please feel free to give your input on what direction I should take to get this fixed.

Thanks in advance,

Kevin

This would be good info if someone knows where to get a diagram of the mikuni carbs. I have a 04 ozark that wont start, due to bad gas screwing up the carb.

Have you tried looking for a dealer with the microfiche diagrams? That's saved me a million times. Also some sites can be emailed for support .

this has diagrams from suzuki to help you 2 out and what exactly is the engine doing when you don't have the choke on is it cutting out...if so I would take your carb apart and clean it really well and also take the jets out and clean them making sure you cna see light through them also make sure there isn't film from gas sitting around in the carb clean that out if there is...do some maintanace to it like sprakplug, oil, and valve adjustment and she should run fine...now for michigan what exactly is the Ozark doing...does it get spark? is it cranking at all? if you could give me a little more info and pm me about it or get back to me I could help you fix the prob

Default 1997 Suzuki LT 250 Carburetor Problems

I am also having a problem with an '87 LT-4WD. I parked the bike at the end of deer season last year and when I tried to start it last weekend, it would idle for a few seconds then die. I changed the oil, drained the gas tank, put in a new spark plug. Same problem. Took off the carb and sprayed carb cleaner on everything I could see. Took out the jets and sprayed cleaner through them too. Reinstalled carb and same problem. I did notice that if I take out the air cleaner and hold my hand over the opening leading to the carb and let just a little air in the bike will run for about 30 or 40 seconds, but then dies out. With my hand over the air intake, I can give it some gas and rev it up, but it eventually dies. Any Ideas or tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
