Default ltz400 clutch

Ok I have a 2004 ltz400 and a 2004 dvx400. I have burnt up 2 hinson kevlar clutches in 2 months. on both bikes. So a total of 4 clutches (for those of you who can do math ) Is anyone else having these problems?

Do you soak your clutch disks in oil before you install them? You should soak them in oil over night before you install them.

I bought mine in April '05 and have only made one slight adjustment to the stock clutch...................

Of course they did move up to a 9 plate system in 2005 so perhaps they are more durable .......... but still I have not heard too many Z owners have any problems like you are having, something in the basket might be messed up. I would go over all the surfaces with a fine eye.

What kind of oil are you using?

Sounds to me like either your a clutch abuser or the clutch is not fully engaging. You may think it is, but it could be slipping a minut amount burning it up over time. There should be at least 1/8"-1/4" freeplay in the cable/lever.

If your slipping it manually like a 2-stroke quad, it's your own fault.

Do you have an aftermarket case saver? I heard of the clutch arm hitting the case saver and not letting the clutch fully engage.

The best clutch setups I hear of are stock, barnett carbon fiber, and your Z plates with honda 450r fibers.

I took a look at it after i burnt the first one up, then i took it to my friends shop. I let them do it. Then i took it up to the same place for the second and third ones. This is the order i burnt them up in: stock, kavlar, kevlar, then i got a carbon fiber one and it is holding up pretty good so far. I had the shop tear it all down and look at every little piece and they said everything is perfect. so i guess the kevlars suck! But those are some expensive bills.
