I am having a problem keeping the chain on my LT230S. I have new swing arm bushings so there isn't any play in the swing arm. Does anyone know what causes this? It has already destroyed the side cover.

I'll give my response to this common bi-weekly question. Quadsports are known to throw chains. The most common problem is that the swingarm bearings prematurely wear out, causing the chain to be misaligned. Suzuki even posted a service bulletin on this. Other things to check are the rear axle bearings, stretched chain, and/or worn sprockets.

I appreciate the help very much. The sprockets are in alignment, and it has tight bushings and bearings. I hadn't thought about chain being bad.

This may sound stupid, but the chain is tight? Right? Ok is yours an 86 or 87.There are 2 major differences. If yours is an 86 or 85 loosen the 2 bolts a the back of the bearing housing and turn the bearing housing to tighten the chain. Now grab the chain where its on the sprocket. If u can pull more than half the chain off there it needs to be replaced.

The chain is tight enough, that was my first thought. I think it is very possible that the chain is worn out.
