Default Z400 Valve adjustment Has anyone else seen this

Has anyone else seen this? When I opened up my 2005 one year old Z400 to check the valve clearance, it appears that the something was 180 degrees off when assembled at the factory. When I move the T mark on the rotor to align with the arrow on the generator cover the cams appear to be 180 degrees off. When I move the cams to the position of the picture in the factory manual the T mark on the rotor is nowhere to be found. I bought this Z400 from dealer as a new left over in late 2005 and the only time it has been back to the dealer was to get the clutch cover replaced. I dont see why they would have messed with the alignment during this procedure. Also, when you line up the cams as pictured in the manual with both lobes pointing away from each other, and up at approximatley a 45 degree angle, you can see the marks on the camshaft sprockets are in the right place with the 15 cam chain pins. Anyone have any suggestions or comments?

rotate the crank another 360 degrees.....look better? On a 4 stroke the cams rotate at half speed of the crank. In other words, the T will line up twice in a complete cycle...one is correct and the other isnt.

Hondabuster, not only do I appreiciate your knowledge of 4 strokes. But your closing statement "Thoughts of the unthinking" hits home.... It's darn near Biblical...I, as you, wish that faith and kindness would be enough. But even in our short 230+ years we have been challenged from every angle. And it continues today. Maybe it's human nature ? The position of tolerance has taught us many lessons (check out all the major wars). I too wish for peace and prosparity for all. But when others constantley throw rocks into the face of our way of life, we americans tend to get mildly offended !!!

I guess that's why the majority of the world would rather live here than where they are ? And those who can, are already here. For me the position of strength is comforting, I'm not sure if I'm ready to speak Spanish, German, Japenese, Russian or check this out Persion......I wish there was a better answer.....

God Bless and Ride Safe

What made you want to check them so soon? Just for the heck of it or was it running bad?

It is cold here and the manual states, you should check every six months, I thought I waited too long, and if I cant ride, tinkering is the next best option.
