Once the battery no longer accept charge (no longer accumulating) I found that the ATV will stay on only if you turn the lights on. I don't not know the reason for this.

okhamis, Thanks for that great information I just wish you would have told me a couple days ago.

BTW, I called my dealer today and he said to bring my ECM in and they would take care of getting me the correct one. Hopefully it's gonna be free but my warranty is over.

Update: My dealer had good news and bad news. First it is covered for 36 months Suzuki will give you a free one. Bad news for me was mine is a little older than that.

The new ECM or ECU upgrade will reduce current draw to 1 mA or less when not running. If you're not running your King Quad 25 minutes on a regular basis to allow the battery to recharge or keeping it on a battery tender my solution is the following:
Wire a waterproof kill switch from a boat with the same gauge wire that feeds the battery to the side of the King Quad and presto; no more dead batteries.

Oh yeah, my battery is shot.

Default 450's

Hey all, thanks for this! I purchased a 2007 KQ 450 but not pre-owned. Early in the thread someone asked if the 450 was effected or just the 700. I didn't see an answer. Does anyone know if the 450 has the same problem? When I got the quad it had an invoice about a replaced ignition switch for $0.00. When I asked what that was the dealer said it was a recall fix. Is that related? I couldn't tell from the string. Some folks mentioned the ignition and others did not. I plan on a battery tender no matter what but I'd like to really fix the issue if I have it. Thanks!

I don't know if the 450 had the same problem or not. If you don't ride it for 2 to 3 weeks and the battery goes completely dead chances are it does.

Or you have an old battery that needs changed.

Ok as I have mentioned before... ECU or not you SHOULD DO the Regulator MOD on your Quad - as I posted earlier it gives you great results.

If you are not comfortable doing this MOD and happen to live near Massachusetts, I will do this MOD for you for a Case of Beer as long as you are there to help take stuff apart.

I will have to try that mod it just makes me mad the japs are making me live with their mistake unless I pay $300+ for a new ECM. It shouldn't matter if it's past the warranty I thought I had a crappy battery for 3 years.

Next 4 wheeler or bike I buy will be a Polaris or a Harley Suzuki can kiss my A$$!

Hey Kingding,

Not sure if your read this entire thread... but here is a post I made about the results before and after the mod

I did the regulator mod on my brother in laws quad and before I did it the battery would only get about 13.05 volts @ 5000 rpm which is BULLS##T... After I did the Mod I was getting 14.45-14.55 volts!

I'm getting a new battery this weekend I'll have to test my voltage at idle and see what mine is charging at. If it's low I'm gonna do the mod for sure.

I might be wrong and I'm not trying to be a smart *** but one problem I have been thinking of with the mod is that a constant voltage of 14.4-volts put to a battery after it reaches 90% of the charge will cause gassing and water loss. Maybe Suzuki designed this resistance in the wire to avoid this higher voltage for a reason.

Over charging cooks batteries. I have seen new batteries ruined from over charging. It is suppose to be good for batteries once a month or so to give them a increased charge to 14.4 volts or higher for a short period of time to reduce lead sulfate buildup. So I'm just not sure about doing the mod the more I think about it especially if you're gonna ride a lot.

In the other hand a car will produce between 13.5 and 14.4 volts while running. You have to generate more voltage than the batterys rated voltage to overcome the resistance of the battery.
