Maybe Suzuki designed this resistance in the wire to avoid this higher voltage for a reason.

Over charging cooks batteries. I have seen new batteries ruined from over charging. It is suppose to be good for batteries once a month or so to give them a increased charge to 14.4 volts or higher for a short period of time to reduce lead sulfate buildup. So I'm just not sure about doing the mod the more I think about it especially if you're gonna ride a lot.

In the other hand a car will produce between 13.5 and 14.4 volts while running. You have to generate more voltage than the batterys rated voltage to overcome the resistance of the battery.
Fair enough, though my brother in laws Quad is still going strong on his battery I replaced last summer after doing the mod and he barely rides it, though he does use a battery tender over the winter, but not the summer.

At ilde my Yamaha is constantly putting out 14.35volts and I am still running the original battery after 3 years and 1,500 miles.

Great, I'm probably wrong then I'm thinking too much into it.

What's that got to do with " battery issues"??

My 2005 eiger puts out 14.6 volts and its on the origanal battery with about 4500km, the voltage doesn't drop when the lights, accesorys etc. are turned on

my new 2009 750 king quad only puts out 13.4v, thinking about doing the wiring upgrade that's been talked about, but only have 60 miles on it so far, maybe an output of 13.6v is OK?? The voltage drops to about 12.8v when the lights get turned on, doesn't seem right

My KQ puts out around 13.4v with a brand new gel battery from autozone and it destroys batteries. I turned the light on and I can watch it drop down into the 12ish zone. I decided to do the mod this weekend, I'm doing it without cutting the wires. I'm just gonna shave off enough insulation to wrap around some #10 wire and solder it on.

I couldn't wait for the weekend I just finished it. Actually, I didn't insulate the wires yet and I fired it up.

To my amazement I had:

14.5 vdc with all 3 lights on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Best battery for the money and it's found at the Autozone

Wires insulation carefully stripped back with a razor blade; be carefull! I made a slit then used my finger nail to pick off insulation.
Jumper wires were then wrapped around and soldered in place.
Note: I didn't cut the wires because if this didn't work I wanted to be able to tape them instead of splicing them back together that would leave a chance for future loose connections. I think solder without cutting is the way to go though much neater, tighter and waterproof with liquid tape.

Everything hooked up and finished it took me about an hour.

I myself can now recommend the mod for all Kingquads that don't charge well.

Liquid tape from Walmart $4
Battery from Autozone $79
BattreryMinder $50
Not shelling out $300+ dollars to Suzuki' for their mistake. . . PRICELESS!

I like the Autozone battery because:
1) it's Gel
2) has room to stack multiple cables like I have for the winch, charger, jumper wires (Mod)
3) it's ready to go out of the box, no messy acid to worry about
4) it's made in the USA!

BatteryMinder is a better charger than the Batterytender from what I hear but it costs a little more.
