Back the valve lash off a bit... maybe a 1/4 turn (maybe more, who knows). Do the intake more than the exhaust. It worked wonders for my 220 bayou... I moved the torque down in the rpm and actually added 2 more hp (according to simulation software). Not sure about the 230, but you can try.

Better get a bigger quad then! If you gear the 230 to do 60 then it won't get there very fast... And if you gear it so it has good acceleration, then it won't go 60.

By the way, stock my 86 LT230S would do damn near 60mph! After a light bore, intake work, pipe, exaust, and up to 13 tooth on front 68.6mph and only slightly less wheelie happy than stock.
Now going for 273cc, and TOO MANY MODS TO LIST!!! Based on what I have learned from the link atomicpunk gave you. I am learning from their mistakes and successes. Check it out.
