You don't split cases on a LT80 for the gears. It does sound like it's gears tho. I should have a bunch of gear stuff.
Is the cases cracked in front of the front sprocket???

XC, Yes, but you don't split the cases like a 250R etc. The gears are under the rear clutch and behind a plate that unbolts.
If you meant taking the clutch cover off by saying split cases, I appologize.

I took apart his tranny on sunday, He needs the idle drive gear and the final drive gear and the bushing that goes on the end of the shaft that butts up to the tranny cover.

My question is , would buying new be the best bet in fixing this problem or take my chances with possibly " ebay ". Also should I buy locally or on-line, there is a place out of Wisconsin that seems to have some decent prices but I wonder if these places have the items in stock or would they have to order the parts just like a local place. Any one that's been through this delemma feel free to chime in. Thank you

I would not trust anyone from Wisconsin...

The problem is, its had that grinding sound since you bought it new. When we got into the transmission there was no bushing at the end of one of the shafts. #31 in diagram

And a couple of the gears was chewed a little. And if you notice the transmission cover where that bushing meets the cover is chewed up bad.

So im not sure if you could reuse the cover. It might be too sloppy for the bushing, and you'll run into the same problem agian.

Well xcbandit without those Wisconsinites you would not have " CHEESE ". Anyways I know what your saying about the gears to the LT-80, I figure I'm going to most likely buy all the transmission 2 parts. But just like the old Johnny Cash song " One Piece at a Time " unless my money tree starts sprouting out it's dollar leaves. But I feel more comfortable buying " new " than taking my chances with " used " unless I can see it first.
