87' LT230E Carb issue
#1
I have had a ton of trouble with the carb on this bike. I am looking for a new one. What should I get for a stock bike. I redid the top end and rebuilt the carb but it will not idle and loads up, and revs up, etc.
Just starting over on a new carb.

I have the same quad and same problem with Carb...not idling where it is supposed to and when I try to set it to 1350 rpm, it will only idle briefly there and then takes off screaming. Did you figure out what was wrong? Any suggestions? I've been thru the carb to make sure all ports and jets were clean...but it hasn't helped.

I ended up buying a new carb, I tried the rebuild kit and hours of adjusting and had the same issues. When I put a new carb on I just adjusted the air out farther than the book said to and it runs great. I never did put the old carb back on and try adjusting the air needle way out, it might have worked. You might try that and if it does not work then maybe a new carb. You can get them from Babbits for about $115/

You might try changing the needle and needle jet. They wear out coz of vibration. $20 for a rebuild kit.
Might try setting the valves too. Especially if you've ever run it with no air filter. It will cause wear on the intake valve and make it so it never closes completely. It won't idle then either, but it will run ok.
