diesel in gas tank
#1
I have two problems.
1. Son unknowingly added about 1 gal of diesel to his 2000 Quadmaster 500.
Other than draining the fuel, changing the filter, is there anything else I need to do.
2. The push button to start the engine went bad and was replaced with a new switch. After 4-5 starts when the button is pushed, the engine starts but the starter continues to run. Would the problem be the starter or relay? Or perhaps just a good cleanin of the starter.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Be sure to clean the carb and float bowl of diesel fuel. On the starter issue-It could be your 'new' switch is cheaply made and is hanging. The contacts could be sticking due to too high a current being put through the switch. Or the they could just be defective.I don't know what you have, but when I need a pushbutton momentary switch, I always get a 12 volt 10-30 amp rated one from an auto parts store instead of a cheapie from RadioShack.
Another cause that comes to mind is the bendix (the clutch that throws out the gear to engage the flywheel), is old and is hanging. What did the starter do before the switch failed?. If it was OK, I would suspect the switch. If the starter was acting up and you replaced the switch thinking it failed, I would suspect the starter. Based on what you say, I think the relay is OK, relays either work or they don't.
