z400 vs ltr450
#4
I have a Z400 an dmy bud has the 450. After doing these mods I can hang right with him just can tpass him. Drag racing in the sand, I had paddle tires and his were stock I was able to beat him off the line to about half way and here he comes. I added aprodesign intake with a Uni filter, replaced the main jet with a 160, pilot witha 25, and added a whitebrother E2 exhaust. It runs and sound great. I bet my z400 will still be running long after his has stopped.

Look at what you had to do to keep up with the LTR. The LTR is a FASTER quad, hands down. Besides you had paddles and he had stockers...
If you put a pipe, cherry bomb and paddles on the LTR, you will NOT be able to beat him.

BS!!!!! Im not gonna say you can whip him or anything stupid like that. I will give dues to the Honda/suzuki 450R/LTZ450(good bikes). You need to re-gear the z400(Its' a torqy little b*tch). Go up 1 or two teeth on the front sprocket. Go to ALBA web site and get the stage 3 jet kit(155 main, 25 pilot, with a needle). Lose the air filter lid and add and after market s/o exhaust.
I have two buddy's w/ 450r's . One is all stock(except he go rid of the spark arrestor). I wwhip his a## all the time. Well, the other guy has the HRC kit on his, I get my A## handed to me quite often!!! You don't need to tear into your motor, just do the above mention between CAMOKODIAK450 and myself. You will be on the right path. After that, well talk DRZE gasket with the HOTcam!!!!

I'm not bashing the Z... They are GREAT quads. I purchased one for my wife a few weeks ago and they do get up and go. I also recommended one to my neighbor and he purchased one too (they both love them). My brother has the DVX400 and wouldn't trade it for anything. He loves it also (pipe and jetted).
If you took each quad completly stock they LTR would win. Add a 30.00 cherry bomb, take the spark arrester out and remove the air box lid, you would need to add a lot more $$$ to have the Z keep up.

No one says the z400 will beat the ltr450. Were just saying with a few mods it holds it's own against the 450. I've got a 450R also and the power is ALMOST the same but the Z rides and handles so much better that I dont know when was the last time I had the 450R out of the garage. I still say the Z will be running long after the 450's have quit.

Keep in mind that all the 450's (yamaha, honda, suzuki) are designed to be race ready. The motors on them require more frequent maintenance then the 400cc models that proceeded them. That doesn't necessarily make them any less dependable. When you start to tear into the 400 motors to get more out of them, you'll find you will be in for more frequent maintenance as well. And as for any motor, and you start to make any physical modifications from stock, you will also decrease the expected engine life as well.
But, as with any motor, keeping the proper specs and routine maintenance will make for a longer, happier relationship.
