hey man, im in the same position as you. i have done a lot of research though. if you stay at 27s on a 12" wheel, you will be fine. if you start looking at 14" with 27s or 28s then you will need a lift and the storage box on the back may even need to be taken off. as with any mod that increases weight and isn't factory spec, you will be forced to expect a power loss. its not much though because this beast has 700cc's of power. each tire is slightly heavier and will produce more drag. some people will recommend a clutch kit too. also to keep the rpms up more than normal when trying to turn. helps prevent clutch slipping.

other than that, i have been really keeping my eye on the ITP 589 m/s 27's on 12" wheels. they are great for mud, snow (good for self cleaning tread) but also run smooth on hard surfaces too.

what type of riding do you do?

It's not just the weight. by going to a larger diameter tire, it effectively gives the quad a higher gear-ratio. This will reduce torque at the wheels and raise the top speed. Your brakes may also feel less effective.

personally, i never use my brakes too much unless i need to come to a complete stop. when i just want to slow down, the CVT slows down the kq very nicely

There is a mod too that gears the quad down both in high and low range. It just involves a couple of washers. Even after the bigger tires you will still go a bit slower than you did with stock tires before the mod.
