Default Z400 rear disc brake squeaking

Its not as much as checking for rotor warpage but more so for checking for the axle trueness as any runout in the axle will obviously distort the way the rotor turns.

Try this procedure:

1. Remove rear brake pads.

2. Lift rear end by putting a jack under the swingarm to raise tires of the ground.

3. Start and run the bike in gear.

Pay close attention to the brake rotor side to side clearance as it spins inside caliper.</end quote></div>

If your half blind like I am ,you can also sit a soda/beer can next to the rotor to verify rotor warpage.[img][/img]</end quote></div>

Ok , my mistake , I should have been more direct. I will still say put a can down by the rotor and watch for odd movement, then you will at least have an idea where the problem is coming from. Ummm ,Trxrevo , how tight do you have that parking prake setup? Try adjusting it if you havent already.

Trxrevo, try adjusting that parking brake. Two ways of doing it. You can do it at the clutch perch or the rear brake assy. For the clutch perch , pull back the rubber weather guards. You will see two aluminum ***** where the cables go in. One is for the clutch and the other is for the parking brake. The parking brake one is on top. Loosen the big circular(dial) **** and back out the smaller **** 1-2 turns , then snug down the bigger dial **** after you performed your 1-2 turns. Set the parking brake and see if theres a difference.

Rear brake assy is easier(to me that is). you will have a 12mm bolt and a 12mm nut near where the cable hooks up to the brake assy. Right next to the spring. Loosen that nut about a turn or so , then tighten the bolt about 1/8 turn at a time. After each 1/8 turn , check you parking brake to see if it holds. When you feel that its holding enough, go ahead and re-tighten the 12mm nut back down.

I fixed my squeak by tossing the stock brake rotor in the trash and buying a vented rotor, and I havent had any noise since
