If there are no lines engraved on the stick then the stick should have a flat spot on one side of the stick. The bottom (tip end) of the flat spot on the stick serves as the add line while the top end serves as the full line. Be careful adding oil to your bike. be sure to start it and run it up to driving temp then shut it down and wait about 30 seconds then check the oil just like you would for your car for an accurate measure of the oil in your crank case. In a cold bike the oil settles and you can overfill your oil without knowing it.

The wifes LTZ-250 has a tough time starting.. she also has gear shift issues until the engine is warmed up all the way..The bike shop suggested using a lighter oil 20-50 or a little lighter and that should take care of the starting & gear issues.

sometimes it is tuff getting a good reading on the dipstick on Z400 because not all your oil goes back into res tank I know because I have put oil in thinking it was low only to have it overflow out of tank next time I chk it
