86lt230s timing problem

Default 86lt230s timing problem

hey i got a 86 lt230s and i just had to fix the trans on it and when i put it back togather it wont start. i am thinking it is a timing problem becuse i got spark and i got gas. i dont have a munual so i am just kinda guessin about the timing. if anybody can tell me anything about timing or some how send me a pic or something of the page out of the manual. anything will help thanks and when i kick it air shoots out the carb.

Default 86lt230s timing problem

Stick a screwdriver in the spark plug hole and find TDC. Then make sure the cam marks are parallel with the surface of the head. Don't use too much rtv on the valve cover or it will squeeze out on the cam bearings and wear them out.

hey thanks that worked good. the first kick it started right up but i had to replace the stator cover thats why i had it apart. so i bought a new one of ebay the other and had it on and the chain poped of agein and cracked it. but have you ever heard of someone puting a lt250r motor in the 230 frame?

I hope you put locktite on the screws that hold the coils down inside the mag cover! Those screws can and DO come out and wreck an engine. Take it back off and locktite them!

Get a new chain. That helps. Then fix the swingarm bearings so the rear end isn't all over the place letting the chain pop off. And maybe even get a spring loaded chain tensioner for it.

Seems like I might have heard of a 250r in a 230 frame, who knows, but don't know the benefit of doing it. It would be better to have a 250r in a 250r frame. [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif[/img]
