i did and it does the same.it should at least run with it off..or with the 1 part off.....

it wont idle with it off. Backfiring is lean usually.

it wont idle period.....!!!!!it idles with back firing for 3-5 seconds.thier is 2-3 seconds that it dosent back fire..so i have to get the hole air filter box tight....and if i get it running will i beable to drive with the oil spraying out?.it only sprays out with i try to start and when it is running

It should run just fine with oil spraying out, but not without an airfilter.

okk i will try tomrow.but the perso i got it from said to check the timeing...(were the piston sits when at the lost point).but i wiudent thing it would start at all if its off...and maby it need the oil filter to be changed?

i would first clear up whats broken. if the cover is busted either get new or welded. As for the sealing surface if not too bad try a putty called quick steel. its 4.00 at walmart. A case for that would be almost impossable being a 250 s but i have seen them on ebay. other wise grab up a motor on ebay thats complete and figure on re ringing it. Even a 230 s motor would bolt in and get it ridable till u found the resourses to fix the current motor

.would i be able to take the motor from the quad runner?..it it should stop back firing after i tighen up the air filer?

Do you understand that the motor needs the airfilter to get the right air and gas mix to run right? Otherwise, you have to rejet the carb to run without the filter. Backfiring is because its getting too much air and not enough gas. Wrap a sock around the metal screen thing in the airbox... Or something to restrict some of the air.

ok.i fixed the air box.made it all tighented up and it started after aboyt 2-4 minounts of kick staring it.(all most broke my foot)and then only ran for about 5 seconds.less back firing then befor....does any 1 think it might be my timneing with the pistin...because i thount that if it is at least starting then it cant be the timeing...but ive been rong befor.....any help is good help
