I have a 2000 suzuki quadrunner 250 4x4 and the battery will not stay charged. I dont think it has an alternator but I dont know what charges the battery to check it. Is it magnetos?

 

Its called a stator, and it only differs from an alternator, by always being on, and cant be cycled off, like an alternator can be.

 

what do you mean about an alternator being cycled off? i thought as long as the belts are spinning on an alternator there is a charge?

 

It could just be a bad battery, when they get a bit old they don't hold a charge. Try the easiest/cheapest fix first.

 

Is there a way to check the stator to see if it is working properly? The battery is not that old so i don't think that is the problem but that was my next step since all you have to do is take it to auto zone and get them to test it.

 

I've had 2 year old batteries crap out on me.
