Oldschool Quadracer vs New Stuff Comparison Questions

IMO, you may want to consider a used trx450R. You can get them for 3-4k. You'll get used to the ride. All the new 4 strokes sit different than the old R's.
A used 400ex would make a nice ride also. Alot of used ones that have mods for sale.
My Dr. buddy had a 01 Rap (he was lucky w/no tranny prob too). Once he rode my R he couldn't wait to get a TRX (which he did). I rode his rap and simply hated it.
I am no Yamahahaha fan. I recommend Yam to my competition. <EG>
The 4 strokes are so much easier to ride. No clutch fanning and 1/10 the times shifting. I'm 50 now and consider myself old enough for a 4 stroke.
I also have a 300ex. Other than racing, I love it!

i not a big fan of the 660 rap but the 700 is a amazing machine. im somewhat of a drag racer so the 700 is great for me. i dont know anyother 4-stroke that can make 75-80hp for 2500-3k. the 450s are great track and gncc type bikes. but once i get my raptor done you will be hard pressed to find a 450 to beat me and im not going all out because this is still going to be a duner.

My first quad was the KFX400 listed in my sig--I bought it in November of '07. Since them, I've acquired an '08 KFX450R, an '03 Blaster, an '03 Banshee, and an '07 Raptor for the wife. The KFX450 has a full Dasa exhaust, Fuel ATV intake, Dynojet PCIII, etc., and it is wicked, wicked fast. The Banshee has a set of ProCircuit pipes, K&N Filters, +2 a-arms, and bits of chrome sprinkled all about it (I bought it used, obviously). Both KFX's are very easy to ride (mostly dune, with some desert and trail riding). I couldn't ask for anything more from a quad than I get from the 450--it is mind-blowingly fast, and handles superbly.
I prefer the Banshee. She's wicked, makes sounds that pluck at my heart strings, and has that 2-stroke rush that just can't be explained. It handles just fine (and I'm not a "granny rider" by any stretch) for what I do with it, it jumps fine, it dunes fantastic, it trailes fine, and it is tough to beat drag-racing up Oldsmobile Hill. The only draw-back I can note is the stiff thumb lever--but I am addressing that with a Terry Cable "Dual Gasser."
Go with what plucks your heart strings. The 660 Rappie is a good bike, but if it doesn't "do it for you," no matter how competent it is, you jusrt won't be very happy. I was riding my Banshee at Glamis over the Memorial day holiday, and came up on a group that had a few older 2-strokes: the TRX250R, a couple banshees, and two Suzooks: an LT250r, and a Quadzilla. Both had nice suspension components, and both sounded great--and they were FAST!!!! The Quadzilla was particularly impressive... I think I 'll start scouring the want ads for an LT250 or 500--they're getting harder and harder to find, and they look like a heck of a lot of fun!!

I've ridden both the Craptor and the LT. The Craptor had a 686 kit and +8 swinger so I couldn't tell you honestly how it did in the trails. The LT had much better suspension and sat lower to the ground. I've also ridden a 440 MX Style Honda, it was nice but in the dunes that really really low front end sucks. I'd say get the LT, there are more parts than you think out there. You just gotta look a bit harder.
Don't fall for the Banshee and be like everybody else who thinks its the best.
Good luck with your purchase.

LOL!! This isn't about what's "The best." Like I said, my KFX450 would kill my Banshee (or an LT, for that matter) on anything but maybe hillshooting--and even then, it's still faster right now. This is more about what brings a smile to your face and the satisfaction of a great ride... And it's funny that you call the 660 a "Craptor"--they are great bikes and hugely popular.
The Banshee has the best after-market support of possibly any bike made. It's a fun bike, with the potential to be anything you want it to be. I love my Banshee, but I am going to add a Quadzilla to my stable too...

Ratman,
I've been around as long as you... and also used to ride the old R's back in the day.
If you want the old performance in a new updated bike, what you need is a 450.
I haven't ridden them all, but can tell you the YFZ450 similar to the feel of a 250R for a 4 stroke.
They (450's) use a very short piston these days, rev high and are high strung like crazy for a 4 stroke. They will need post-ride oil changes or close to it, and valve adjustments regularly.
I think you will be pleased everywhere but the tight woods... too high strung for that really... really similar to a 2 stroke in that way... lots of clutching and so forth. Just a waste of potential for this type of riding.
So you'll find a lot of 450's for sale, many of them very reasonable...
The above reasons are why...
Don't ask me which 450 tough...
I only have experience with the YFZ.
I'd say any of them would be great... go with the one that looks best to you?
The Suzuki has that nostalgic quality to it... and so does the KTM except the orange color.
Both remind me of the old LT's.

You seem to like Suzuki....
So why not a z400? They can usually be found for a decent price used and have enough power to pull your 260lbs around no problem.... At 6-2 you should not feel too cramped either, I have a buddy who is 6-2/250 and he rides a 03 z400 and loves it..... they handle WAY better then a Raptor660 and they are as close as you can get to the hit of a 2-stroke without getting into the 450s.....and with a few cheap mods you can hang behind with a stock 450 on the track.....
About the only machine out there that might get me off my z400 would be a Raptor 700SE, but they are quite expensive......

Hi,
A mildly Rx'd Zilla will kill all those 4-pokes and has great ergos for big guys.
Not to mention, you have something not many others do.
There is lots of info on the quadracerhq.com site if you are thinking about a Zilla.
