They make one of the best pipes in the market. They can sell you the filter and advise (and supply) what jets are needed.

"One thing I have noticed, the most popular route is to massage the engine, and chassis/suspension comes much later, if at all."
Yor correct scooter.
The difference is the massaged motor ppl think they are going fast, the suspended ppl are.

Welcome to the forums Mesikano.

If you have patience and time, you can shop on ebay and find some good deals.

If you have the budget for it, you can go directly to the manufacturer. (Sparks, Yoshi etc...)

After you get it running good, some other things I'd suggest. A good set of nerfs, real skid plates and some a-arm guards.

HMF also makes a quality pipe, with excellent customer service. In fact, when I bought my Z new in '03 I went to their shop, (I live in NE Ohio) and watched as they actually made the pipe.

suspension not only helps you go faster in turns and such, but suspension set up well helps u get better traction...which does mean you will go faster, but just get a slip-on yoshi, hmf, white brothers, pro circuit prolly best choice and get a dynojet jetkit, then pull the airbox lid off and set in a K&N clamp style filter,or pro design kit,pro flo and your off to a good start

The power mods vs. suspension is a matter of where you ride. If you ride mostly in dunes I would say power is the first thing you want, like a pipe, rev box, k&n with lid off or air box eliminator, jetting, sprockets, etc. If your mostly riding mountainous/rocky/bumby trails that I would go with suspension for sure. I ride the dunes 98% of the time so I have power mods and my suspension is set up okay for now for what I do. So on that note Good Luck and have fun out there! Oh, and LRD also makes a very nice pipe for the Z400. I have a full LRD and it's great.

What year Z??? If it has the rezzie shocks, then you can dial them in pretty darn good for stock shocks.

stock suspensions suck. like I was told way back when, suspension first, then power. what good it having all this power if the quad cant handle it in the suspension
you need a good set of shocks set up for how and where you ride then power
