Very soon after running a little, something seems to drag on the engine HARD. It will not idle except with high throttle and gets very hot.

My main work horse needs help.

Any thoughts?

About the only thing I could think of is a wrist pin or con rod bearing. Easy enough to check. When it does it pull the plug and turn the engine over. If it still drags, it's going to be a bearing, stick a fork in you, your done.
Guess it could be something in the valve gear, but if it drags as bad as you say, I vote for a internal bearing.
