Default How do you tell the year of a quad?

Hi, I just bought a LT250R from a guy who said it was an 89, but when I got the reeds they didn't match up, I have four flaps not three. The quad's running very rich and I want to rebuild the carb, and buy new reeds, but I'm not sure of the year anymore. Is there a tell tale sign of the year?

If you ordered reeds for 88-92 LT250r & they won't work, it's an '87 engine. 87's had their own "oddball" style reed cage.

The reeds are external right, between carb & cylinder?? If they are internal, inside the cylinder, it's an 85-86 engine.

They are internal. Thank you for clearing this up.
