The spark is "whitish -blue". Definately not red. I think I'm getting close as the spark is good, the fuel system is good from the tank, through the pump, and right up to the carb. Something must be blocking successful ignition at the carb. Hey on another note, any ideas which gear I need to be in to go onto reverse? All literature I've found on the bike indicates thie bike is a 4 speed with reverse. I'm not sure if that is 3 forward and 1 reverse or 4 forward and 1 reverse. The reason I ask about which gear I should be in to get into reverse is because there seems to be a lot of reference to "2nd gear" on the internet with this bike. Kinda like 2nd gear is the gear that may be the switch from forward to reverse. My expereince with other quads is that first gear is the gear to change from forward to reverse but this is an older bike so who knows what they did back in 1984? A lot of guys on the internet are selling this modael of bike with the stipulaton that it "runs" but is stuck in 2nd gear which makes me think 2nd gear is significant on this bike. Appreciate any advice/wisdom you have regarding this issue.

umm ya i bought a 1984 lt 185 today the kill switch should be in the center position, and it needs to be in nuetral to switch to reverse as for it not starting it may be the carb but usually card trouble is when it wont idle but it is possible try putting gas directly intothe piston that may work but befor you got it was it stored inside or outside if it was outside it may have watter in the engine it could be a variety of things but there are symptoms that you need to look for

 

Thanks. I went for the gas right into the piston option and she started! I've got to replace the primer on the carb too. Anybody know where I could get a better set of plastic for the old girl?
