LT500R Stator and Compression Question.
#1
Hi everbody I just picked up my first Zilla for a $1,000 and need a little help. It's an '87 in great condition but the only problem is there is no spark. So on eBay I found a complete electrical components set that was supposed to be off a running '87 LT500R. Tonight I took the old stator out and found one wire that was frayed and one of the lighting coils had been cut. So I figued that I found my problem. Well I put the "new" old stator in and still no spark. I started to check into things and I don't have any continuity on the power source coil. According to the factory manual I should have 315 - 475 ohms. Right now, nothing. The old stator was the same way, no continuity. So I am assuming that I still need a new stator to get this thing to run. Could somebody confirm that if you check the resistance between the Black/Red wire to the Black/White wire that it does indeed check 315 - 475 ohms? I figured that if somebody has a running Zilla that actually has the proper resistance that would comfirm my problem. Is there something else that I should look at other than the stator for my spark issue? How are the Ricks stators that I see on ebay and everywhere else? I have heard not so great things about them. Shoud I stay away from them? If so does anybody have a stator that they would be willing to sell?
Last, If I check this thing with compression gage where should an '87 Zilla be? Right now it checks 120 PSI. Is that too low or ok? Any help would be appreciatod.
Thanks,
Nathan
