Default Z 400 shocks
Check out GTThunder. His shock rebuilds are known to rival big dollar shocks for a fraction of the price.
I'd go with the trx450R shocks if money is an issue.

Default Z 400 shocks
I have 08 450R shocks on my 03, (pics in the gallery) bolted right up, and rides much better... ($200 brand new take-offs from e-bay)
