Default Slip On Exhaust

I don't agree a slip on is a waste of money at all....... It all depends on what you are looking for. If you want trail power, low end power, a slip on is a good way to go...

It all depends what you are looking for..... If you just want a boost on the bottom end, a slip on is a good way to go..... I put on a slip on Motoworks SR4 on my '05 and I could not be happier with the results. The bottom end hit that the pipe added is excellent. I also added a PowerNow intake stream insert and that allowed me to leave my jetting stock, and my air box lid on. This is the same exact set up that Dirt Wheels did to the z400 and they too were impressed with the improved bottom end. Everyone who rides my z400 is impressed with the performance.......and the sound is excellent too......

Since the z400 stock already makes good top-end power, but lacks on the bottom, the low end is where you really need the boost if you are a woods rider.... Guys I know who raced GNCC on the z400 ended up taking the full system off, and going back to the stock header because they said it was a waste since they were never in the higher RPMs in the woods. They wanted more usable power on the low end and that is exactly what the slip-on will give you....

If you want more power on the top end, and are not in the woods a lot, a full exhaust and jetting are the way to go. You will get more power across the full band.......for MX or in the sand or desert a full system with jetting is the way to go...........but you will also have to open up your air box, which in the woods and dust is not always a great thing...... as I said it all depends on what you are looking for.

A slip on will work just fine, if you can afford a full exhaust, then get one. It all boils down to how much bling you have. I don't think you should have an issue with low end power with a s/o or full exhaust. When I race harescrambles, I have that engine screaming between 1-3 gears, mainly second gear. If anything, I need to go back to stock gearing because I have too much low end torque. It pretty much depends on what mods you have. I think its got plenty of low end torque, then again,I only weight 140LBS soaking wet!
