interesting reading JustRandy. that wouldnt do much to hold the exhaust valve open, just burn it up and create more wear.

quick question, how much oil does the 230 take? 2.2Qts ish 10w40?

and i will need to install a kill switch....just dumping the clutch to kill it is stupid imo

If it says 2000ml on the side of it, then about 2 qts and a little more from a 3rd bottle.

Wet-clutch safe oil or pre-1988 car oil. 10w40

The black wire with yellow strip needs to be grounded to kill it. The diagram says Y/B which is confusing. It should be B/Y.

For some reason my quad had a start button, but, of course, no starter. So, I hooked the kill wire to the start button. Hooked the lights to the kill switch. And the hi/low beam to the light switch. I like the push button kill. NEver have to worry if the switch is in the right spot before kicking.

1liter is 1000ml, and 1qt of oil is roughly 950ml. so just over 2qts. im going to use some nice synthetic 10w40 in it, same as my foreman. (wet-clutch safe oil ofcourse)

my buddies 230 has the run/kill button, nice feature id say but you feel stupid after you kick it over 5times before looking to see its in the OFF position... the push button kill switch seems logical.

o i did not mention that the Y/B kill wire is currently stripped and the guy touches it to the handelbars to kill it.... so instilation of a kill switch should not be hard LOL

I was going to say just touch the wire to the frame, but figured a loose wire floppin around might kill it when you didn't want it to die and probably just when you need it to run the most!

o iv had that happen before on my crappy-@$$ arctic cat....piece of junk. id rather spend the $10 and have a kill switch, piece of mind if nothing else.

should i be concerned about the gear shifter being loose on the foot peg mounting? its not the shaft that goes into the transmission, but the lever holder

Mine was really sloppy too. I found a way to take out some slack though.

Where your lever mounts to you foot peg, the a e-clip holding the lever onto the peg. Pop that clip off, don't break or lose it though, then there's a washer on the shaft that (on mine at least) was really thin. Replace it with a slightly thicker washer and re-assemble it.

hey you should definatley look into a momentary dirtbike type kill switch. looks clean and fancy, water and mud proof, and momentary to avoid confusion. just make sure you get an rm/yz type and NOT a kx/ktm type (they SUCK; not well sealed, and don't always work good, u gotta wiggle the button around to stop it). i dont really remember what type honda uses, but i think it might be some strage bulky thing.

itll slow you down when you squeeze the release and it should do like on an old two stroke. they had them to clean the spark plug in the 70s.

just picked up my 230's today! one in very nice with new maria red plastics and overbored to a 250cc...the bad is it smokes a little

the other could be put together and make a complete bike, minus rear caliper and plastics.

i have a question, did 85-86 models have a lesser oil capacity? like 1400mls because the trans case looks way diffirent from my budies known 87 230, and the side says 1400mls oil.

O! its not a good idea to to groung the kill switch wire to the handelbars when its raining...i got shocked, but my buddie did it right after i did and got burned.

if someone would tell me how to poast pics i will asap thanks
