Snorcaleiger it sound's like you have a bad 5th gear , a broken tooth is my guess since it stop's when you pull up on the shift lever ; try to push down on the shifter when you're in 5th gear and hold the pressure on the shift lever to see if it stop's when you're holding down the (foot ) shifter lever as well .
If it stop's while you're holding pressure on both up shift and down shift , then it's a sure sign it's the 5th gear ; probally a broken tooth on the gear i wouldn't ride it with this happening if a tooth is damaged and the metal get's picked up in the oil it can chew up the other gear's as well
It's not really that bad to rebuild the gearbox i've done it without a manual , but i was a Small Engine tech over years so i didn't need one ; but with a good Service and Repair Shop manual anyone could do the job if they have the tool's to work with !
Good luck and welcome to the forums !........
