Hi,
I have a Suzuki 400 that's used almost solely to feed livestock. No hard usage at all. It wouldn't start this week and the dealer tells me the magnets came unglued from the fly wheel. Have you ever heard of this? Any suggestions would be awesome. They want over $700 to repair this.
Help!

I repaired a 2004 Arctic Cat 400 that had a defective flywheel and have heard of several others. They had the Eiger engine. If I remember right the flywheel was about $ 340.00 from Suzuki. The new flywheel has the magnets enclosed. A/C paid for some repairs I am told. Never heard of any problems with the Suzuki machines.

KC The Eiger flywheel magnets do come off of the older models. I have an 02 and they did come loose. I have been hearing more of this happening.
Is your ATV at dealer? If so have them show you the flywheel/magnets. The magnets should be attached to inside of flywheel --all the way around it.
If you still have your ATV at home you can check this for yourself. You would have to take off the left side of engine case but if you have any maint. experience it is not hard. You can also first check to see if you are getting any spark. (mine was intermittent even though all 6 magnets was lose) If you have good spark then it shouldn't be a flywheel/magnet problem.
$700 is a little high but the flywheel does cost $300-350. I would talk the dealer down some and have him break down the cost. A mechanic that has done it before should take less then 3hrs.
