The bike will idle but when you hit the gas it dies instantly. what do you think the problem is?

i have 300 and they run really rich( lots of gas) and i had to get the valves cleaed cause they a ton of sledge on them

what year is it?

im asking because i know the early qr250's had vm-style carbs, and the later ones had cv-style carbs.

 

I had a problem like that on my 1997 quadrunner. Have you stripped and cleaned your carburetor? Usually, it would be some varnish or a sticky float that would cause that. Get yourself a couple cans of aerosol carb cleaner, and give it a bath. The books all say that you have to pull the engine to get the carb out, but if you work at it, and you're careful you can work the carb out and back in. The Mikuni carburetors are actually very easy to work on, and there's not much to them, so don't get flustered!
