1985 Suzuki LT185 timing? needle valve?

pick up a suzuki lt 185 i replaced the head I adjusted the valves have compresstion but the timing is off.. how do you adjust the timing? also do you know with the needle valve how many turns out for the initial adjustment? thanks for any help

the timing is off? what tells you that? are you SURE its not an air/fuel mixture or ignition related issue?
anyways, for the carb screw, i usually go 2 turns out and thats usually good enough to get started. then, i play with it while the engines running to get everything perfect.

well on an lt185 the only screw type mixture adjustment on the carb should be the pilot air bleed (affects idle + under 1/4 throttle). the normal procedure is reversed with this screw, since it adjusts air, not fuel (going in goes richer, out goes leaner). otherwise your other adjustments are the needle clip position (midrange + throttle response), and the main jet (top end).
