Default LT 250 carb question

Howdy everyone. I'm a bit of a newb when it comes to all of this so please bear with me. I've got an 1986 lt 250. It's been sitting outside under a tarp for about 3 years. And hasn't been started in at least that long. It's extremely hard to start, and when we do get it started it sounds like the throttle is wide open, it revs extremely high and when we touch the throttle at all it bogs down and stalls. I've drained the tank and put a fresh mix in. The slide on the carb isn't sticking or anything it moves freely. Would this be something that can be corrected by adjusting the needle valve?

This is the 2 stroke racer, correct? If you haven't already, I would pull the carb and clean the float bowl and jets. You probably have some residue that needs to be cleaned up. Next, the hard starting, then racing when it does start are typical symptoms of an intake leak. Perhaps one of the boots is not properly tightened or there may even be a crack in the boot. You may also have a blown head gasket and or warped head.

Yeh it's a 2 stroke. I did check the boot on the intake, it didn't appear to be cracked. I guess I'll throw on some new clamps and see if that helps. If the head gasket is blown would there be any other symptoms, like fuel leaking out or something? I cleaned out the float bowl and the jets and that didn't seem to help any.
