Help With 86 LTF230-G Rear Axle
Hey,
I have a problem with the housing that my back right rear axle enters. (apologize for the terminolgy I am new to ATV's and do not know what any of this stuff is lol) Anyways from the pic you can see it is destroyed and is alowing the axle to move up and down. I can grab it and just shake it. When the quad is on the ground the axle slams all the way to the top (instead of the center of the hole where it goes) This causes the right side to sit way higher than the left side. What parts do I need to replace, to fix this issue???

You have a problem on your hands for sure. Your bearings have failed completely, and this will require a complete rebuild. The carrier and axle are undoubtedly damaged and it will be an extensive rebuild for you.
If you have mechanical inclinations, you can do it yourself, but don't even attempt it without getting a factory service manual first to look over the number of processes involved.
It will probably be cost prohibitive for a shop to do it for you, considering the age and value of your ride.
What you might consider is finding a good used rear drive assembly and swapping it out

Thanks for your quick reply. Where is the best place to try to hunt down a rear drive assembly, as I usualy use E-bay, and unless I'm missing it I don't see anything on there I need. I will definitly invest in a manual, but any ideas on a replacment rear drive assembly will help. Thanks!!!

as stated before, forget having a shop do it. it's simply not worth it. but with a good manual, you can do it yourself for sure. it just may take some time for the right parts to pop up on ebay (when i broke the swingarm on my 250r it took me months to find a replacement), but trust me, they will eventually come up. there's tons of stuff on there and new things are added every day. if you get lucky, you may find a whole rear end, ive seen them before for dirt cheap, and if i find another ill let you know.

if that's the right one, and it's in good condition, then that's a great price.
Just as a thought, you might take it by the dealer/shop to see how much they would charge you to replace the bearings with that assembly removed...since they won't be tearing your atv apart to get to that assembly, it might be considerably cheaper to have just that work done. I saved a LOT of money (and since I didn't have the press to install the bearings myself) by taking my Honda's rear drive off and having the dealer remove and replace the bearings that I supplied (which were a better aftermarket brand/design)
I was wondering how you ended up with the drive train in such bad shape...lol
