I have heard that the 85-86 Quadracer LT250R has some problems, what are those? I am looking at a 86 Quadracer which is the only one for sale here, sound ok? Thanks

 

The 85-86 racers have a habit with frame cracks above the front shocks and cracks on the swingarm by the chain adjustment bolts. both problems are easily fixed with a good man with a welder. Both years have 5 speed transmissions. And aftermarket parts can be hard to find. With that said I own a 86 and I think it's a very good quad and it's very very quick!!!
Oh yeah, they don't have a power valve but, I've riden lt's with it and could tell no differnce. As far as 5-speed vs. 6-speed the top end is the same. Top speed is still 69 to 71 mph.

I have a 86 lt 250r right now, and im in the process of cleaning and restoring the engine to new. the people before me had no idea what a quad is or how to run one. so i tore into it yesturday and ordered the parts. but before all of this the thing screamed and beat my 87 banshee in a drag race, and i even beat a 2000 400ex no prob, **** the banshee can smoke the 400 and i thought that was quick! but i do think that when im all finished the LT will be the quickest quad around from where im from thats for sure. do get one. its well worth the money

yeah mine takes out 400EX's easy too. also mine did crack above the shocks and also it cracked recently below the seat but that was repaired and so was the first cracks. also i hear the older quadracers have weak swingarms.

 

A Quadracer beating a Banshee in a drag race? Thats laughable! The Banshee must have been really messed up to get beat by a QR. And dont bash me, I have an 85 Quadracer...

yeah its true it beat the banshee, but later to find out the right piston was scored up.... haha, thats funny a 87 banshee with a scored piston can still take a 2000 ex, i was happy, sorry for not mentioning that before

 

The '85 and '86 had the worst cases of 'Zukitis ever seen. Nothing short of a witch-doctor could come close to sorting out those demons.

 

The main problems with the 85/86 are the Swing arm and poorly designed reed system. Also the 86 is faster than the 85 do to a 2mm bigger carb and redesigned gears. I have ridden both the 86 is the better of the 2. A 85/86 slightly modified (mine) will NOT beat a properly running banshee in a drag unless the race is about 20 feet long. Check out my website my 85 looks sweet but it's still slow. It will out jump a banshee though.
