Eiger Petcock problem... again
Hey all,
Last year I replaced my Eiger petcock because the fuel was not shutting off when the bike was turned off. (I discovered this by accident when I pulled the fuel line off of the carb to change jets). However, this year it is happening all over again. So this time, I pulled it off and took it all apart to see if there was any dirt in it. The petcock was clean. As a test of its' operation, I blew through the fuel outlet and air flowed through with the dial in all positions. (is this normal?). I then held my finger over the vacuum inlet and could not blow any air through unless the dial was in "Prime". This operation made sense to me. (But, not sure if it is correct either?)
So assuming the petcock is operating correctly, this lead me to think about the vacuum tube coming from the carb... So I tried blowing into the vacuum tube and I could hear air coming through the airbox. (Is this normal?) Going by my finger over the vacuum inlet tube on the petcock test, I would expect not to be able to blow any air through the vacuum tube connected to the carb.
So I guess my question is... Do I have yet another faulty petcock (after only 1 year) or do I have a problem with a vacuum leak in the carb?
Thanks

Honestly I HATE vacuum petcocks. I had about 4 different bikes or quads with vacuum petcocks.....always had one hanging open (dirt) or going bad (diaphragm)......finally just started replacing them with regular petcocks.

Hey guys,
Thanks for the input. I don't know what to say... I put it all back together, planning to put vacuum caps on the carb and petcock. However, once it was back together it is working correctly again. Go figure... Maybe the plunger assembly was sticking inside? Anyway, I'm going to continue clamping the line when I park it with vice grips just to be safe.
Thanks

Im not sure....honestly I think the easiest and most reliable test would be to start the quad and see if there is an vacuum on the line going to the petcock......actually I think it should have some just turning over.

If you go to a manual petcock, do you just plug off the vacuum to the carb or is there more to it that that?
