Default Need help with 1982 Suzuki Quadrunner 230 shaft drive, 2wd ATV

Ok, my neighbour who is moving gave me their 1982 Suzuki Quadrunner 230 shaft drive, 2wd ATV. it sat for at least 5 years unused, but it started up on the first try. The problems are... 1. when I throttle up with the transmission in neutral, the engine RPM's comes down to a very high idle speed for about 30 seconds before it drops down to a normal idle speed for 1 minute, then the engine stalls out. 2. the engine gets very hot when running at a max of mid throttle speed(its 55*F outside and and with long pants on, my leg felt like it was on fire from the radiant heat off the engine). 3. I have to feather the throttle open or the engine stalls out. I have been working on engines since 1999 , so I have a good knowledge of how to fix it, but I don't know what the problems are. I would appreciate any help I can get.

John

I guess i would inspect and clean carb real good, an lean mixture or lack of fuel can cause engine to heat up, also cause an high idle drop before idles correct...This would be good start.... also inspect intake manifold[boot] for cracks and leaks..Good Luck.... LET US ALL KNOW...
