LT80 - Fixed Drive Face
#12
Haha well, it's making a terrible sound when your getting on the throttle.. at idle it's not so bad, but i took at apart after seeing this post and saw that my fixed drive face was stripped at the the point were it meets the shaft. I was riding it and it just started making a sort of squeak.. then it just got louder and louder. I tore the engine apart and saw that my cylinder and piston are scored really badly. I'm to blame i feel, when i got it about 3 weeks ago it had sat for around 3 years. I should have torn it apart to make sure everything was tightened down. the crankcase was full to the top with gas as well.. it has some problems.. any info you got is gladly appreciated..

yes my rod has side to side play.. and the crank spins freely but has the magnets so of course it's gonna have them spots where it's slightly harder to trun. what could the side to side play

After taking the cover off my other LT80 I noticed there is a large washer behind the fixed drive face. The washer was missing on my LT80 that was having issues. Probably the previous owner replaced the belt and forgot to install the washer... That would give the whole assembly about an 1/8 inch of play!!!
Out of the service shop. Rode it for a total of 5-6 hours and suddenly last week heard that sound of the drive face hitting the case.. Good thing i wasnt far from home and only moved it for about 1/10 mile.
And guess what! Yes.. That washer behind the fixed drive face is missing!!

Now should i replace it or its not a bad damage? Hard to find new parts here. cost for this is 130USD + shipping but will have to wait at least 2-3 weeks to get it and summer season almost over here.

Welcome to the forums.
What year LT80?
87/88 models used a long spacer and no washer.
Whether it's bad or not depends on the splines. If the parts spins on the crankshaft, no good. If the splines still hold onto the the crankshaft, it's good.
If you measure the spacer I can tell you if you need that washer.

Your key will be OK.
Pull the starter gear off, take the key out and file the key and keyway smooth. Turn it around and install it.
Yor roller plate I'm sure is bad.
Why they loosen:: missing washer, spring washer upside down, nut wasn't tightened properly.
I gotta measure the spacer.
