Default 2000 LT 80 is DEAD...help?!?

I just bought a 2000 LT 80. The guy I got it from told me his mechanic told him it needed a coil and a battery. I tried jumping it off my truck and cannot get the switch to enguage the starter. I unplugged the red and white wire and touched the end of my jumper cable to it and the starter cranked the engine over.

Where should I go from here? Yes the key is on, foot brake switch is good...I am out of ideas.

OK....the whole dead issue turned out to be a gunked up start switch. Now that issue is fixed, I have yet another. I have spark and am definately getting gas, but the ATV does not even try to fire. Choke, no chose...makes no difference. Anyone got a suggestion?
