Default 1998 suzuki quadrunner having issues

Hello. i have a 1998 suzuki quadrunner that won't stay running. It has sat a couple years with no use. My brother decided to tear into it and made a huge mess of things. Some friends put it all back together and cleaned the carb out real well. The problem that it has is it will only run if the starter button is being held, once its let go it dies. We pulled the spark plug and its getting great spark with the electric starter but when we pull start it there is no spark at. Does any one have any idea on what it could be. Any ideas would be a great start. Thank you all very much!!

Sounds like a wiring issue to me. Do you have a manual with a wiring diagram?

Thank you for responding. We kinda thought wiring also. We don't have any diagram or manual for it. I have looked on the internet but haven't found anything useful. Do you know where I could get one. Thank you again

Try looking for one on ebay first. I've been able to find more than a few brand new manuals there. Also do a google search, there are many sites such as repairmanual.com that will have what you're looking for as well. Hope this helps somewhat!

I have a 98 250 with the same problem, It will run with the starter button pushed but not without. Did you ever figure it out?
