So I got the swing arm off now, and I can move the bearing about 1/8 a turn, so I figure that is bad. And the bolt that holds on the swing arm, one side had a cap on it ( the side that had the but) but on the other side where the bolt is, how do I describe it.... the bolt side has like a hollow end into it... dunno what that does or whats it for... is it supposed to be like that? Let me get some pictures on it to show you... give me about 30min

Oh yeah forgot to post, the previous owner I went and talked to. He said the chain came off because it was really lose. He said when itd come off he would just put it back on and ride more. Guess he was doing doughnuts one day and it came off and took out the engine. So the swingarm bearings weren't replaced.

The chain came off because here why: The swingarm bearings need replaced. The chain needs replaced. Change those two and you should be set. If the seals are fine, here you go:
Swingarm Bearings Kit Suzuki LT-230S 1985-1988 | eBay

If the seals need replaced, get these:
SUZUKI LT230S LT250S 85-90 SWINGARM BEARING & SEAL KIT | eBay

You can pick up full synthetic grease from an auto store for like 9 bucks a container.

Yeah I could of have gone there but the closest store like that to me is about 50 miles away... cost me about the same in gas as the price difference. I figure the free shipping and the extra $6 was worth it. Should be here around next week. I also ordered a new chain. I think I am going to end up taking apart the whole bike and painting it, to get rid of that ugly purple / blue color that is on it. Also to make sure that this guy didn't mess up on anything else. It scares me that he took the whole bike apart and painted it.. its missing nuts and bolts everywhere. Including that he put the rear wheels on backwards, and my front tire almost flew off the first day I rode it because he didn't tighten down the nuts. Sorry that this thread has gone past more than the clutch, it just seems like more and more is wrong and I am continuously asking for help and asking dumb questions lol.
So far I have ordered:
New chain, rear wheel bearings, swing arm bearings, grease, clutch release pinion, clutch release arm, clutch release rack, clutch plates, cutch springs, clutch spring bolts, clutch pressure plate, chain guard plate, hand grips, some bolts/nuts/washers for plastics, and oil filter.
And that's not including the carb cleaner, oil, paint and primer, lacquer thinner, slime, and tools. I need more money lol.
I still need to buy a headlight assembly, and who knows what else.
Oh does brake fluid eat JB weld? I've read about 100 sites going both ways with it lol. Just that stupid eye port broke and i was going to put a dime there and jb weld it in.

Just think though, you will know the quad was built right. And, you will have all the receipts to show it was done right if you decide to sell it in the future. For somethings such as the frame when you paint it, I recommend about 3 coats every 48-72 hours. Whatever the can recommends that you wait before you add a second coat. Doing all 3 coats at the same time is like adding one big coat. Just make this your lt230 build thread, we haven't had one in a while, so it should be interesting. Also, with prices, don't assume the most expensive is the best, you can save money and your quad can be just as durable by going to other places to buy parts. Also, with bolts, if you have a local hardware store, most bolts can be picked up there, which should save you some money. Also, taking the plastics off can make it alot easier to work on the quad.

Yeah I've been meaning to take those off but I keep getting side tracked with other things lol. I got the rear axle painted. Used a Metallic. I gave it a good couple coats of primer, then a couple coats of paint, and threw on a a couple coats of clear coat to make it look good and to hopefully let the paint take a little bit more of a beating. I got some parts today (hand grips and goggles). I should be getting the clutch plates tomorrow, and rest of the clutch parts on friday. After I paint the swing arm I'll show some pictures so everyone can see.
It was kind the pain in the butt to get those swing arm bearings out. I ended up having to cut this rod that was part of the steering assembly and then got a motor mount bolt and put the 2 together, worked real nice. Both were old junk parts that I used, so if your mouth opened and was wondering what I was thinking, I didn't take it off my quad lol.
Oh yeah, the hardware store that is in our grocery store, doesnt have much of a supply of anything lol. I live out in the boondocks. Walmart is about 50 -60 miles away, along with oriely auto parts. This town and the next closest town, has 1 gas station and 1 grocery store lol. Well I'm going to go finish sanding, then paint the swing arm so ill come back to the threat a bit later today.

Rear axle finished painting, just need to wire wheel a few spots.

A closer look at the rear axle

Swing arm painted, wasnt dry and a few dust speckles mustve landed on it, it looks better without the camera.

Another of the swing arm, hard to see thow.

My JB Weld job on the eye port on front master cylinder, there's a dime under it.

My new hand grips lol.

Some cracks in the fender that I will be repairing, not sure on the method thow.

Plastic Chain Roller? or buffer? Should I replace, recreate, or leave it on?

Does anyone got a method on repairing rims?

Is the washer supposed to be bent? And am I supposed to be able to move that nut any? Because I can..
