Default 2005 eiger 4x4 running at 1/2 throttle

Just bought a 2005 eiger 400 of craigslist the guy rode it around the field and i did also no problems but was almost out of gas. I filled it on the way home started it back off the trailer went down the road and can only get 1/2 throttle any thing over that it shuts down and starts to backfire. It will start will idle fine. Just cant get over 1/2 throttle while riding or sitting. I have read some and tried the turning the lights on did not work the battery is dead but able to pull start fine.

IMO I would put an good batt. on atv and also check to see if atv is charging.Needs 12 volts to run right....Dead batt wont cut it..Got to have an hot batt and good charging system....

Put a battery on it. My Quad Runner 250 had a battery on it that was good enough to start it most of the time, but it still would miss randomly, especially at higher RPM. I put a new battery on it and it hasnt missed one time. Definately best to do that first. I would bet that will fix your issues.

I would think it's your battery too, The elec.system needs it to complete the circuit as the Alt. will put out 15volts at higher RPM's and the coil will only be able to handle 12 volts and will start breaking down and miss firing until the volts drop to 12 volts.
Turning the lights on should bring the volts down and make it run just fine at higher RPM's and you say it didn't help so that makes me think it's fuel related(Carb/fuel pump). I would get a new battery and if that didn't fix it then move on the fuel system.

Default Fixed

Just an update. Got it running replaced the battery still the same. So went to the carb found that the choke cable was broken the nipple that goes into the carb not alowing it to release, ordered one and cleaned the carb and jets while waiting. Also cleaned the gas tank along with the fuel pitcock. Put it all back together and stated right up and no more cutouts or backfire. Getting a meter reading of 14.2 while running. Waiting on a-arm bushings and new front axle to finish. People I got this from sure didnt take care of stuff. Also the bike had no air filter what a joke replaced that also. Thanks for the reply.

Glad you got it fixed. I'm fixing up a Yamaha big bear that was treated pretty rough by its previous owner as well. It's amazing how hard people are on these things as well as how little they get maintained. Good thing I enjoy fixing things I guess. Lol

Is there anything else that could be causing an 05 eiger to almost act like it's hitting the rev limiter just over 1/4 throttle? I've checked the batt and running voltage and they're both good... i've cleaned the carb 3 times and checked the choke cable and plunger and they both move freely and in and out fine. Any other suggestions? Not trying to hijack but since we're on the subject....

Not that I'm a ware of, it's always been the recitfier, check the voltage with the throttle turned up and it hitting the rev-limiter or so you say.

It's the voltage at the battery correct?

If thats the place to check it it idles at 14.65 and onlu in gear is when it does it but it only drops to 14.56 when it cuts out... i can't say rev limiter for sure but it isn't popping out the carb or the exhaust no matter how long i hold it open...
