Default Rookie in need of advice!!!!

Hi,
Me & my friend just bought a 1999 Warrior & a 2003 Suzuki Sport 400Z. They both started up - but they have some minor gas leaks & both of the previous owners let them sit & collect dust. The Warrior also has a hard time getting into Neutral. What should we do first? Should we just bring them to a shop & ask the mechanics to give them a look over? We dont want to come across as rookies & end up getting jerked for our cash. Let me know some advice?

First I recommend you figure out your fuel leaks. I suggest you check all of the lines coming from the tank/filter petcock and carb. Make sure you see no visible cracks or abrasions. Are the carbs themselves actually leaking? Or is it the connections and lines? I would pull the tank and flush it to get any bad gas out and replace lines as needed. If its leaking from the carb I would recommend you having them professionally rebuilt. It is doable for an amateur but Im ASSuming its above your comfort level. (not being condescending) Once the leaks are taken care of do a full oil change. Make sure you look for any excessive metal in the old oil. A very little isn't too much to worry about but any large flakes or chunks or it looks like glitter would be signs of major damage. Fyi my background is drag cars. Im just now getting into the atv scene with my two boys but maintenance is maintenance. If Im way off base someone please lmk. This was the exact chain I followed when I got my sons 90's last week.
