Default ltr 450, good quad?

Hello, I am looking for a 450 and i like the ltr's can you guys give me any and all kinds of info on them, i am looking at 06-07, I have heard that they tend to have problems (06's), do they and what kind of problems? I also heard you have to rebuild them every 13 hrs to keep them running nice, Is that true? basically i want one to trail ride and maybe get into racing later. I want to get a full yoshimura pipe with a cherry bomb and k&n filter. Is this a good quad for trail riding, and will it have problems constantly, thank you for your help!

I have an 06 and an 08 they are great quads. Add a steering srabelizer, air filter, cherry bomb and uncork the exhaust.

Fine machines.
13 hrs? I highly doubt that!
Stick with a foam filter and clean it often. Also, keep the oil changed.
Do that and I'm confident you'll see 13 hrs quite a few times before freshening is needed.

Hours will be highly dependent on riding style and maintenance. Change the oil and clean the air filter often and don't bounce it off the limiter constantly and it will last like LT80 said. They are a bit wide at 50" for some trails, but are an excellent starting point for any kind of racing.

100 ppl, 100 answers. LOL
I'll say this, when you do decide to freshen it up, you'll think it lasted a long time.
These cylinders are nikasiled. So freshening is a simple piston kit and gaskets, maybe valve seals. I'm thinking $300 or so in parts for countless hours of riding.
Have fun.

I have well over 40 hours on mine and it's riden hard. About 10 races on the motor and a good 4 seasons of glamis riding.
I'm still on factory oil... I neglect my maintenance but I may be do for a valve job because it's slowing down and starting to pop a little.

You're going to do a valve job because of wore out oil and dirt flowing right on past the filter and onto those valves.
That's why it's slowing down and popping. LOL

Course, you could try adjusting the valves.

My daughter changed the oil (motor and tranny) every race on her quad.
