Default Lt230 smokes bad

Hello, new to this forum. But I just picked up an 87 lt 230s for 100$. It is smoking profusely. I mean bad blue/grey smoke. The pipe is dripping oil! It starts fine and idles good ( a little high but that's probably just carb) it revs good when in neutral but when I kick it into gear and give it gas it dies out. Just wondering what you guys think the oil issue would be..... Worn rings, valve stem seals, or valve guides maybe. It's .50 over and the piston and jug look great smooth as baby's but. One of the valve faces is massively caked with carbon tho. Any help is apriceated

You will have to check for ring wear by removing the top one and putting it in the cylinder, check the end gap with feeler gauges. I don’t know the spec for the 230 but Honda 250s are max gap 0.020” so, if it has a cast iron bore, I would guess anything bigger and you need new rings. Valves and guides don’t give problems much, but take the springs and seals off and wiggle the valves when slightly open to check for wear. If not badly worn, clean the carbon off and re-assemble with new seals.
